New committee intended to help Detroit land major sporting events

To help Detroit land major sporting events such as the Super Bowl, WrestleMania, and the Final Four, a new local organizing committee has been formed of some the region's notable executives. The nonprofit Detroit Sports Commission's new Detroit Sports Organizing Corp. will prioritize the region's efforts to secure significant events, form organizing host committees, and create funding strategies from public, corporate and other private sources. Among the 16 committee members are executives from the city's four pro sports teams, political, civic, and business leaders, including Mike Ilitch School of Business alumnus Tom Wilson, president and CEO of Olympia Entertainment. The committee chairman is Michael Wright, vice president of marketing and communications, and chief of staff, at Wayne State University. Wright joined Fox 2 reporter Roop Raj to discuss the new effort.
