Ilitches, retired Stryker chairman among Philanthropy 50 donors
Two sets of donors from Michigan once again made the Philanthropy 50, a list of the country’s most generous donors published annually by the Chronicle of Philanthropy for its subscribers. Mike and Marian Ilitch came in at No. 47 for their $40 million donation to Wayne State University in October. Of the total, $35 million will fund construction of a new business school building and $5 million will go toward an endowment. As Crain's reported last fall, the gift was the largest donation in the school’s history and ranked as one of the top 10 gifts ever to name a public business school in the U.S., WSU said at the time.
