Ilitch School academic advisors earn new certifications

Two academic advisors from the Mike Ilitch School of Business Frederick Hessler Student Success Center have “leveled up” via the Wayne State University Advisor Training Academy. Christie Pagel was awarded her Level 2 Advisor Certification and Patricia Michno has been awarded her Level 1 Advisor Certification.

These accomplishments were achieved through a WSU-developed training program administered the University Advising Center. Level 1 focuses on understanding Wayne State University, the role of academic advising at the university, and essential advising skills and competencies. Level 1 advisors must have completed specialized readings, exercises and training modules.

Level 2 recognizes advisors who go above and beyond in their professional development and who embody the value of “advising as teaching” endorsed within the profession and throughout the WSU advising community. In addition to completing Level 1 Advisor Certification, Level 2 advisors must also give a professional presentation, submit a written contribution to the WSU advising community and obtain a written endorsement from their supervisor.

Pagel provides advising to students in accounting, finance, and entrepreneurship and innovation programs. Michno advises students in management and marketing.

“I am extremely proud of Christie and Patty for these achievements,” said Linda Zaddach, the Ilitch School’s Assistant Dean of Student Services. “All of our advisors in the Frederick Hessler Student Success Center are committed to providing the best possible service to our students before, during and even after their time here at Wayne State.”
