Give Green, Be Gold this Giving Day

The entire Wayne State community will come together April 11 for a 24-hour fundraising campaign. During the third annual Giving Day, the Mike Ilitch School of Business and other WSU schools and colleges will aim to inspire Warriors around the world to make a collaborative impact on the student experience and a wide variety of key campus projects.

Giving Day celebrates the entire Wayne State experience by empowering alumni and friends to support the causes they care most about—projects that affect students, faculty members and programs in the heart of Detroit. Last year, the Ilitch School raised nearly $40,000 in the 24-hour campaign.

This Giving Day, Mike Ilitch School of Business alumni and friends can support one of these highlighted projects as well as a range of other areas that directly impact the school and its students.

Fund-a-CPA

You can help a Wayne State student achieve a 600 percent career ROI. A recent Robert Half study found that accounting graduates who earn a CPA license make over $1 million more in their careers than those without the certification. The WSU Department of Accounting is rolling out a program to reimburse students for their review course if they pass the exam within one year of graduation. The department will reimburse students up to $1,700. This program should also encourage students to take the CPA exam sooner, which would help increase the CPA exam passage rate for Wayne State graduates. Each $1,700 raised helps one WSU student ensure a lifetime of success. Giving Day contributions of any amount work toward this goal.

Study Abroad

Doubling your potential Giving Day impact, the Mike Ilitch School of Business Alumni Council will match every dollar given in support of the school’s study abroad program, up to $3,100. Studying abroad is a life-changing opportunity for Ilitch School students. Each faculty-led program exposes students to new cultures, cuisine, languages and locations. Students learn about international business practices from our network of corporate friends in each global destination, who guide them on observational tours. In 2019, business students will travel to Brazil, China, Italy, the Netherlands and Germany. Funds raised on Giving Day will be used to provide aid for students who would otherwise be unable to afford the program. Donate to the Ilitch School in support of the study abroad program to provide students with a once-in-a-lifetime experience.

Scholarships

The Ilitch School awards roughly $500,000 in private scholarships to business students each year. An average of 200 students receive support from more than 70 named scholarships. On Giving Day, contributions to the Ilitch School scholarship fund help deserving and disadvantaged students achieve their dream of a Wayne State degree.
