Detroit Free Press: Marick Masters on new vice president for UAW Ford

Gerald Kariem, who started on the assembly line at age 20 and is the son of a foundry worker, has been named vice president and director of the UAW Ford Department, where he will handle daily labor issues and negotiations with the largest employer of UAW members in the industry. Promoting Kariem "represents a savvy move at a critical juncture. He brings a wealth of experience and a fresh perspective to the UAW's Ford Department," said labor observer Marick Masters, a business professor at Wayne State University. "It sends a very positive message to the rank and file."
