Dan Gilbert to speak at Wayne State on March 30

Businessman and Wayne State alumnus Dan Gilbert will speak Wednesday, March 30, at the university’s law school.

Gilbert, who graduated from Wayne Law in 1987, is chairman and founder of Quicken Loans Inc., the nation’s second-largest mortgage lender. He is also founder and chairman of Rock Ventures LLC, the umbrella entity for his portfolio of business and real estate development, as well as the majority owner of the NBA’s Cleveland Cavaliers.

He is also well-known for recognizing and investing in the potential of Detroit.

Gilbert will participate in a question-and-answer session with Jocelyn Benson, dean of the law school. They will discuss his work in Detroit and beyond.

“We are thrilled to have Dan join us,” Benson said. “We have been fortunate to have him speak to smaller groups at Wayne Law, but this marquee event provides the opportunity for many of our students, alumni and the community to interact with him directly and hear his thoughts on the numerous ways he has helped to lead Detroit’s revitalization.”

The event, which is free and open to the public, will be from 5 to 7 p.m. in the Spencer M. Partrich Auditorium at the law school, 471 W. Palmer St. The evening will begin with a brief hors d’oeuvres reception. Register at law.wayne.edu/dangilbert or by calling Duc Abrahamson at 313-577-6199. Parking will be available for $7 (credit or debit cards only) in Structure One across West Palmer Street from the law school.
