Business class approved to fulfill math competency for all WSU students

Quantitative Methods I: Probability and Statistical Inference (BA 2300) has received university approval to fulfill the general education math competency. Multiple sections of the course will be available for WSU students of all majors for the spring/summer 2016 semester. BA 2300 is the only Wayne State class meeting the math competency requirement for which there are no prerequisites and the math placement exam is not required.

A minimum “C” grade will fulfill the math competency general education requirement. During the fall and winter terms, BA 2300 will only be available to business major and business minor students.

According to Linda Zaddach, assistant dean of student services in the Mike Ilitch School of Business, the approval process was over a year in the making. A proposal had to be submitted by the school, which was reviewed by the university’s general education committee and then reviewed and approved by the provost.

“I think it’s a great opportunity to allow students outside of the business school to fulfill their math competency requirement, versus taking another class that may not be of as much interest,” Zaddach said.

Students who are interested in finding out more about BA 2300 – or in majoring or minoring in business – can make an appointment with a Mike Ilitch School of Business advisor by calling 313-577-4505 or emailing businessinfo@wayne.edu.
