Fox 2's Roop Raj to emcee Ilitch School awards program

Fox 2 Detroit anchor and reporter Roop Raj will emcee the Wayne State University Mike Ilitch School of Business Annual Recognition and Awards Program Thursday, Aug. 25, at the Detroit Marriott at the Renaissance Center. 

Raj's television career began at age 14 in his hometown of Troy, Mich., where he created, produced and hosted a public-affairs talk show on the city's government access station. One year later, he was deemed one of the nation's youngest TV personalities when he appeared on The Phil Donahue Show.

Before joining Fox 2 Detroit, Raj was a reporter, anchor and weatherman in Flint and later New Orleans, where his extensive coverage of Hurricane Katrina earned him an Emmy Award for Best Continuing Coverage and an Associated Press first place award for Breaking Weather Coverage. In the years after the storm, his coverage of a city in crisis won two first place awards from the Press Club of New Orleans and the Associated Press.

The Ilitch School's Recognition and Awards Program honors top Detroit business leaders:

  • Michigan Executive of the Year: Nancy Schlichting, 
    chief executive officer, Henry Ford Health System
  • Distinguished Alumni Award: Mark Davidoff ’81, Michigan managing partner, Deloitte LLP
  • Emerging Leader Award: Krystina Borrocci ’07 ’10, director of marketing, UHY LLP

Major student awards to be presented at the event include: 

  • Outstanding Student Award: Alex Atanasovski and Salma Alazmeh
  • Delta Sigma Pi Scholarship Key Award: Tao Tao

Student scholarship recipients will also be celebrated.
