CARMA lecture series with Scott Tonidandel and Michael Zickar
On October 25, Wayne State University's Center for the Advancement of Research Methods and Analysis (CARMA) hosted its third live webcast lecture of the 2013-2014 CARMA Consortium Webcast Program. November's speakers were Scott Tonidandel and Michael Zickar.
Scott Tonidandel, the Wayne M. and Carolyn A. Watson Associate Professor of Psychology at North Carolina's Davidson College, presented on "Developments and Resources for Relative Importance Analysis." The goal of the presentation was to provide a brief overview of relative importance analysis while also addressing common questions researchers have when implementing these analyses. Tonidandel also shared some of his recent work extending relative importance analysis to a variety of new domains. Finally, he provided a step-by-step walkthrough of a new resource for conducting relative importance analyses so individuals can easily implement the techniques discussed in their own work.
Michael Zickar, professor of industrial-organizational psychology and chair of the Department of Psychology at Bowling Green State University, presented on "Modeling Polytomous Data." The goal of Zickar's presentation was to review some of the basic polytomous models and demonstrate the process that researchers can use to evaluate their model choice. In addition, he discussed research ideas that can be advanced by using polytomous IRT.
More than faculty and graduate students attended both the webcast and the "Meet the Methodologist" interview in person at WSU. Another 275 faculty and students from 42 of CARMA Consortium Webcast member institutions viewed the webcast live online. A recording of this lecture is now also available for viewing for all faculty and students at 141 universities worldwide that belong to the Consortium Webcast Program or the International Video Library Program.
CARMA's next live webcast will be Friday, January 24, and will feature Jeffrey R. Edwards, of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Edwards will present on "Application of Splines in Organizational Research."
