Requirements for Marketing Major

Those pursuing bachelor’s degrees must complete Wayne State University’s general education program, as well as courses to fulfill Mike Ilitch School of Business general education, foundation and core requirements

In addition to the above requirements, marketing majors choose one of two specializations — Advertising/Marketing Communications or Marketing Management — or create their own personalized specialization. Contact an advisor for more information.

Advertising/Marketing Communications Specialization

The Advertising/Marketing Communications specialization provides foundational knowledge and promotional expertise applicable in many professional settings. It is designed for students seeking careers in marketing communications or advertising, or positions requiring promotional acumen.

Each course is three credit hours. Students are responsible for observing all prerequisites and limitations, and must have a minimum 2.50 GPA to enroll in 3000 level or higher Ilitch School core and major courses.

Marketing Management Specialization

The Marketing Management specialization provides broad exposure to the marketing management discipline. Students can fine-tune this specialization to focus on specific industries such as health care, sports and entertainment, and more.

Each course is three credit hours. Students are responsible for observing all prerequisites and limitations, and must have a minimum 2.50 GPA to enroll in 3000 level or higher Ilitch School core and major courses.
