2017 Mike Ilitch School of Business 25 Under 25 winner
B.S. in Finance, B.A. in Mathematical Economics, minor in Art History, expected May 2019
Troy Tanzy has always been a leader. At age 9, he was captain of an elite travel soccer team, then captain of his high school varsity football team. Inspired to translate that athletic leadership experience into a professional career, he chose to study business at Wayne State. A B Start student through the university's Honors College, Troy already has guaranteed admission to the Ilitch School's MBA program when he completes his undergraduate degree.
Raised in a predominantly blue-collar town, Troy had limited exposure to the business world when he came to campus. But he quickly found endless opportunities for experience through student organizations. As an active member of the Business Student Senate, American Marketing Association, Financial Management Association and Economic Club of Wayne State, he was offered support and mentorship from his peers that he credits with helping him develop his own professional skills.
Troy strove to achieve leadership positions in these organizations so he can share what he's learned with others, with the hope that they will continue to pay it forward to future students. He was elected president of the American Marketing Association and chief financial officer of the Business Student Senate, where he also serves as head of the professional development committee. He is also a Young Leader Member of the Detroit Economic Club.
Troy also has completed internships in marketing/sales at an Oakland County marketing firm and data analytics for a mortgage company in Detroit. He recently embarked on his third, this time in wealth management at Pointe Capital Management, where he is responsible for preparing investment information for advisors and statements for clients.
"Each move I make and each obstacle I overcome is a stepping stone on my path to becoming a professional," Troy says. "I am ready to kick down more doors."
